Grad Knight Event Frequently Asked Questions

Picture
When is the Grad Knight party?
Newport's Grad Knight party starts the evening of Newport's graduation day. Check in for the event will begin at a time TBD as the event gets closer; but will be the evening of graduation. The event will run through 5:30-6 AM the following morning.

Why should I go?
WHAT???? Why SHOULDN'T you go??!!!

This is an ALL night party, with no shortage of incredible activities, fabulous food, contests and entertainment with ALL of your friends! When will you EVER have that opportunity again?

Who can attend the All-Knight Senior Grad Party?
Only Newport High School graduating seniors may purchase a ticket to attend.

Why is the evening kept secret?
Event locations and activities remain a well-guarded secret to ensure the event remains sober, safe from crashers, drug-free and to create a fun and exciting experience.

What do I wear to the Grad Party?
Students should wear casual, comfortable clothes with a secure pocket, socks with close toed shoes, NO FLIP FLOPS or Sandals and bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. There will be outdoor spaces at venues and it will get chilly overnight. Sweats, leggings, AND PJs are all acceptable!

What can I bring to the Grad Party?
Plan to bring yourself, your ID, your phone (if you want), and a sweatshirt or light jacket and any medically necessary requirements.

Purses, keys, money, phone chargers, backpacks, alcohol, drugs or weapons of any kind will NOT be permitted.  In order to ensure the safety of all students, ALL Grad Knight attendees will be searched prior to boarding the busses for the evening. The Grad Knight committee reserves the right to involve both parents and authorities should a student make an attempt to bring any of the underlined items above. Thank you for contributing to a safe evening for all!

Can I bring my cell phone?
We invite you to bring your cell phones!! Memorialize this evening for you and your friends - you've earned this right of passage and we want you to celebrate! We only ask that you consider keeping those photos between you and your friends such that you don't give away the evening, so those looking forward to their Grad Knight party next year will enjoy that same element of surprise. Please plan to FULLY CHARGE your phone and temper your use so you have enough charge to savor those import parts of the evening. Chargers and charging cords WILL NOT be permitted.

Is there financial assistance available?
If you are unable to pay for the cost of the ticket, please send an email to [email protected] to briefly explain your circumstances (this will only be seen by the Grad Knight Steering Committee).  Need based assistance will be available to a limited number of students. Free and reduced lunch qualify. We will send you a separate registration form to secure your place in the bus assignment line.

How do I register for the event?
Please see our Registration page.

If we are going to different places, can I sit with my friends on the bus?
YES! Plan ahead and purchase your tickets EARLY and TOGETHER!
Bus assignment priority is linked to your ticket registration AND purchase. The earlier you purchase your ticket, the earlier you get to select your bus assignment when we open that process closer to graduation.

I didn't register with my friends, or my friend group has changed can I still get on the same bus with my friends?
The best FOOL PROOF option, is to purchase your ticket early. The bus assignment process will get underway closer to the event so you'll have plenty of time. We have a SUPER slick process to give you the opportunity to get organized and coordinate with friends.

What’s the refund policy?
Refunds are difficult. This event is expensive, fairly complicated and pricing offered is based on number of attendees.
Please be certain that when you purchase your ticket your schedule permits you to attend. The venues and activities available for our event are based on numbers of attendees and our rates are dictated based on those numbers. Should you find at the last minute that you cannot attend, our preference would be you consider your purchase a donation to support the other students attending, but are willing to consider hardships on a case by case basis.
No Shows will not be considered for refund.

What if I get COVID and can’t attend?
We will be following current state or county guidelines relating to recommended protections.

Can I come late?
No. All seniors and parent chaperones will board buses after check-in. Unregistered or late students will not be permitted to attend. We must account for every student at every stop throughout the night.

What if I’m too tired and want to go home?
The likelihood of that happening is very small, as there is something for everyone at this event. We travel together as a group and once the event starts the attendee list doesn’t change. We do have some quiet spaces, that you may move to should you decide you need to, to catch your breath, but you should plan to attend for the entire event.

Is there a waiver we need to sign?
Yes, TWO, BOTH will require a student and parent signature. Collecting waivers from 200+ attendees and their parents is quite an undertaking.
1) One waiver required by our Vendor
2) One Waiver required by Newport PTSA.
3) Emergency Care Plan - ONLY FILL OUT IF YOUR STUDENT HAS A MEDICAL CONDITION WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF.

The vendor waivers are posted with the registration process, and we can and have been collecting PARENT signed waivers as part of registration.

We've attempted to make this process easy for participants by providing a fillable PDF and accept and encourage information to be typed including signatures. However, what makes this process even more complicated, is that students turn 18 throughout the year and hence will need to resign any waiver they sign.
As a result, of students turnign 18 throughout the year we've elected to delay the collection of  student waivers until the bus assignment process which will happen mid-May. Where students will be emailed the above waivers to complete as part of their bus assignment.

Please follow the directions on our website as part of the registration process on the Registration page.

Will there be food at the event?
There will be an incredible amount of interesting and satisfying food at this event. There will be something for everyone. Allergy friendly food will be available and in case of severe allergies, you will be permitted to bring your own food. Please be specific regarding food needs on your waiver forms so we can plan ahead.

What if I’m 18 by graduation?
Congratulations! That is an exciting milestone! It really doesn't change much due to the fact that MOST students will be turning 18 throughout the year.   We will be including a student waiver as part of the bus assignment process, that waiver must be returned to confirm your spot. Any student turning 18 just before graduation will sign before boarding the bus.

All participants will need to agree to the behavioral guidelines, and all participants are expected to stay for the duration of the evening.

What are the COVID guidelines?
We will be looking to follow recommended COVID guidelines in June for whatever county the venues are located.

What if we have to cancel the event due to a COVID shutdown?
Policy coming soon.

My student would like to attend but my student needs additional support.
Please contact us directly to discuss your students unique needs. This party, by design, has allot of visual and audio stimulus for a variety of reasons. HOWEVER, we have gone through great lengths to give students (and adults) who may be sensitive to prolonged exposure to stimulus a quieter place to be able to regroup. Please contact our committee @ [email protected]  for questions and to discuss specific needs and how we can help.

My student needs additional support boarding the bus, and/or I'm not certain my student will be able to make it the entire evening.
It is important to our committee that all students that desire to attend have an option to attend. Please contact us so we can better understand your specific situation @ [email protected]. If your student requires an aid, again, please contact our committee to discuss.

Parent Helpful Tips and Summary of the Event:
  • Graduation is June 18 at 7:30 PM at Alaska Airlines Arena. The ceremony is 90 min and will be finished by 9:00 PM.
  • We encourage you to plan to take family photos before the ceremony, lighting will be better and the Arena will be quick to close upon the closure of the ceremony.
  • Plan to have a substantial meal with your student prior to graduation. They will not have an opportunity to eat until 11:20 PM.
  • Grad Knight buses will be leaving from Newport High School and lined up on the access road between the lower parking lot between the baseball and football fields and the tennis courts by 10:00 PM. PLEASE DO NOT PLAN TO PARK OR TRAVEL ON THIS ROAD BETWEEN THE PARKING LOTS DURING STUDENT DROP OFF
  • We WILL NOT have access to the school prior to boarding the buses, so a quick trip to the restroom before leaving the arena may be considered.
  • Students should bring a change of clothes and should plan to change in the car.
  • We will be communicating directly with your student but please encourage your student to wear comfortable clothing, close toed shoes (no flipflps, or sandals)  and bring a sweatshirt. The outside temperature will drop and their body temperature will be more susceptible to the chill as the night goes on.
  • Please make sure your student leaves ALL valuables with you. They will need their student ID for check in and they are invited to bring their phone. Photo of their ID on their phone is acceptable.
  • All students will be searched prior to boarding buses.
  • Purses, keys, money, phone chargers, backpacks, alcohol, drugs or weapons of any kind will NOT be permitted.
  • Students should plan to fully charge their cell phone and plan to manage their use as there are no chargers permitted.
  • Once a student is searched and boarded the bus, they may not get off the bus.
  • Buses will leave the Newport High School parking lot by 10:45 PM.
  • Students will arrive back at Newport High School between 5:30 – 6 AM. We will have your student text you as we leave our last venue.
  • Buses will come in through the lower lot and line up on the access road. Again, PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE ACCESS ROAD.
